Blower Wheel Cleaning

Small blades, big impact on airflow

The blower wheel, sometimes called a squirrel cage, is the fan inside your air handler. Its rows of small curved blades push air across the coil and into your ductwork. When dust gets past the filter, it packs into the curve of each blade. In humid conditions, that buildup can become sticky and dense.

A loaded blower wheel moves less air, and uneven buildup can make it run less smoothly. Blower cleaning is part of a full HVAC cleaning and pairs naturally with AC coil cleaning, since both affect how much air your system can move.

What is a blower wheel?

It’s the cylindrical fan inside your air handler with rows of small curved blades. It moves air across the coil and into the ductwork.

Does the blower have to be removed to clean it?

For a thorough cleaning, removal is best when the unit’s design allows. We’ll let you know what’s possible with your system.

Can a dirty blower wheel cause noise?

Uneven buildup can throw the wheel out of balance and cause vibration. Noise can also come from motor or mechanical issues, which your HVAC service company should check.

Do you repair blower motors?

We clean the blower assembly. Motor diagnosis and replacement should be handled by your HVAC service company.
