Insulation Replacement

Removal and new insulation, handled together

When attic insulation is wet, contaminated or worn out, adding more on top doesn’t fix the problem. The old material needs to come out, and new insulation needs to go in. Insulation replacement handles both in one coordinated project, so your attic isn’t left empty between jobs.

We vacuum out the old insulation, clear the attic floor, and then blow in new insulation evenly to the recommended depth. Because the attic is empty in between, it’s also a good time to look at the condition of the ductwork, and we’ll point out any damaged or disconnected duct runs we see.

Good to know

A note on older insulation

Some older homes have vermiculite insulation, a pebble-like, gray-brown or gold material. Vermiculite can contain asbestos, and the EPA advises not disturbing it. If we find vermiculite, we stop and recommend testing by a qualified professional before any work continues.

How long does insulation replacement take?

Many homes are done in one to two days, depending on the attic size and the condition of the old insulation.

Should I fix a roof leak before replacing insulation?

Yes. New insulation should only go in once the leak is repaired, or it can get wet again.

What about rodents in the attic?

Pest control and sealing entry points should be handled before new insulation goes in, so the new insulation stays clean.

Can you replace ductwork at the same time?

Yes. Replacement is a good time to address attic ductwork, since it’s fully visible. See our AC duct replacement service.

How much new insulation will you install?

ENERGY STAR recommends R-30 to R-49 for attics in Miami’s climate zone. We’ll recommend a depth and list it in your quote.
